In 2012, to mark the 90th anniversary of the death of Michael Collins, Irish musical theatre company Theatrix Productions presented a revival of the spectacular musical drama based on the controversial life of the 'Big Fella', first seen at Cork Opera House in 2008. This epic Musical Drama brings to life the tumultuous events of the 1916 Rising, The War of Independence and the Irish Civil War as seen through the eyes of one of the nations' most iconic characters.
Never before has an Irish documentary so vividly captured all the drama and excitement that surround the creation of an original stage production. From the first day of singing rehearsals under the direction of musical supervisor David Hayes to the intensity of the exhaustive and relentless rehearsal period under writer/director Bryan Flynn. From the nervous excitement of the first full run through to the agony of the onstage technical rehearsals. From the pressure of the tension filled dress rehearsals to the elation of the opening night at Waterford City's magnificent Theatre Royal. With personal insights from the creative team, cast and crew, the viewer is offered an irresistible glimpse into the way that the musical drama 'Michael Collins' was brought to life and developed. This documentary also contains numerous excerpts from the opening night performance of 'MICHAEL COLLINS'.
