Tá meas ag muintir Mhúscraí ar chumhacht agus ar chumais leighis Ghobnait le fada an lá.  Tá an muinín inti an-láidir sa cheantar agus, go deimhin, in am an ghátair is minic go mbíonn muintir na háite i mbun na ‘rounds’ ag scrín Ghobnatan do ghaolta nó cáirde atá breoite. Tá na scéalta faoi na beacha, na fianna bána, an bolla agus an Gadaí Dubh cloiste againn agus sinn ar scoil ach, is beag atá ar eolas againn fúithi i ndáiríre, ach go háirithe faoi thús a scéala. Sa cheóldráma ‘Gobnait’ déantar iarracht ar fheoil a chur ar an scéal sin i gcomhthéacs an ama c550AD agus éachtaí an mhnaoi óig seo a chur os comhair lucht féachana nua.

Legend has it that in circa 536, a young girl named Gobnait was told on Inis Oírr that God had a plan for her, that she would find her resurrection at the site where nine white deer were to be found. Not knowing her final destination, she cast off her old life and let slip her naomhóg into the frigid waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. And so, the currents of destiny took her.

For 14 years, she traversed the ancient landscape of early Christian Ireland. Founding churches and holy Wells, she used her skills as a blacksmith, a healer, and a keeper of bees to aid those who needed her help.

This land of dense impenetrable forests, of wolves and bears and warring tribes challenged and tested her resolve but she persisted.

Where she could not go by land, she took to the waterways and rivers, ‘til at last, on the banks of the treacherous Sulán river, she beheld the nine white deer. How her heart must have burst with joy. She had arrived. God had called her here.
